How To Actually Get Yourself To The Gym

You know you need to go. You want to go. You're just...not going. Sound familiar? Getting yourself to the gym can be tough, even if you're someone who's typically motivated by fitness goals. Whether you're trying to get back into a workout routine or you're starting from scratch, here are a few tips to help get you out the door and into the gym.

1. Set A Schedule

One of the best ways to make sure you're getting to the gym is by setting a regular workout routine and schedule. This could mean working out three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings at 6 AM. Or, it could be going for a run every Tuesday and Thursday evening after work. Choose what works best for you and your schedule, and then stick to it!

2. Find A Workout Partner

Working out with a friend or family member not only makes exercise more enjoyable, but it also holds you accountable. You're less likely to skip a workout if you know someone is waiting for you at the gym. Plus, it's always more fun to sweat it out with a buddy!

3. Join A Gym

This one might seem obvious, but it's worth mentioning. If you don't have a gym membership, now is the time to get one! Having access to weights, cardio equipment, and group classes will give you plenty of options when it comes to working out—and that's half the battle. Once you have a membership, actually using it will be that much easier (and less expensive).

4. Set Some Goals

It can be difficult to stay motivated if you don't have any specific goals in mind. Whether you want to lose weight, gain muscle, or simply improve your overall fitness level, setting realistic goals will help keep you on track. Write them down and refer back to them often so that you always have something to strive for in your workouts.

5. Invest In Some New Gear

A new pair of sneakers or workout clothes can make all the difference when it comes time to hit the gym. If your current gear is old and worn out, treat yourself to something new—you deserve it! After all, looking good while working out can make exercising that much more enjoyable (and may even help motivate you to show off your new gear!).

There's no magic formula for getting yourself motivated to work out—it differs from person to person. However, by following these tips (or some combination thereof), hopefully, you'll find it that much easier to get yourself out the door and into the gym regularly!
